Improving communication in the workplace

Effective communication and positive behaviour are crucial to the success of organisations. Understanding how individuals communicate and behave in the workplace can help to leverage their strengths, address areas for improvement, and create a positive and productive work environment. There are various tools and assessments available for assessing behaviour and communication styles.

  1. DISC ADVANCED – The DISC profile is one of the most widely used assessments for assessing communication and behaviour styles. It measures an individual’s behavioural preferences across four dimensions: dominance, influence, steadiness, and conscientiousness.
  2. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) – The MBTI is a popular personality assessment tool that helps individuals understand their preferences in four key areas: extraversion/introversion, sensing/intuition, thinking/feeling, and judging/perceiving.
  3. Emotional Intelligence (EI) assessments – EI assessments are designed to measure an individual’s emotional intelligence, which includes skills such as self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills.
  4. StrengthsFinder – The StrengthsFinder assessment is designed to identify an individual’s natural strengths and talents, which can help them to better understand themselves and their behaviour.
  5. Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) – The HPI is a personality assessment tool that measures an individual’s normal personality and identifies potential areas of strengths and weaknesses.
  6. Enneagram – The Enneagram is a personality typing system that describes nine different types of personalities and their associated behaviors, motivations, and fears.
  7. Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI) – The TKI is an assessment tool that helps individuals understand their preferred conflict resolution style and how they can best work with others who have different styles.
  8. Cultural Intelligence (CQ) assessments – CQ assessments are designed to measure an individual’s ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations, including their knowledge of different cultures and their ability to adapt to cultural differences.
  9. 360-degree feedback – 360-degree feedback involves gathering feedback from a range of sources, including managers, peers, and subordinates, to provide a comprehensive picture of an individual’s communication or behaviour skills.

These are just a few examples of the many tools and assessments available to organisations for assessing behaviour and communication styles. The specific tool(s) chosen will depend on an organisation’s needs and goals. It’s important to select an assessment that is reliable, valid, and appropriate for the specific purpose and population being assessed. By investing in these assessments, organisations can gain valuable insights into how their employees communicate and behave, and can use this information to improve performance, engagement, and overall success.
